Jenna Ortega and Robert De Niro will star in Shutout

Jenna Ortega has recently landed a big project. The actress has joined an ensemble cast of the upcoming film Shutout. She will star alongside Robert De Niro in David O. Russell’s directorial project.

Russell, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Mark Bomback have collaborated to produce the film. However, the producers have reflected on the upcoming film and expressed their excitement over Jenna and Robert De Niro’s collaboration.

Jeff Kirschenbaum told Variety, “We’re delighted to be collaborating with the acclaimed director David O. Russell and the legendary Robert De Niro, and especially excited to see Jenna step into the spotlight alongside these two cinematic icons.”

He continued, “It’s a rare and thrilling opportunity to support such a high-caliber team coming together to tell a compelling story — a lineup so precise, it feels like the perfect break.”

The upcoming film Shutout is based on a screenplay by Alejandro Adams and is slated to be released during the upcoming Cannes Film Market.

Meanwhile, Shutout revolves around Robert De Niro’s character Jake Kejeune, one of the last masters of a vanishing craft, the pool hustler. Jake had lived and lost by the roll of a ball in smoky backroom halls when he encounters Mia, portrayed by Jenna Ortega, a young prodigy whose raw, electrifying talent reignites a fire he thought long extinguished.

Robert De Niro was last seen in the crime thriller The Alto Knights, which was released in March. Meanwhile, Ortega's most recent credit includes the horror-comedy Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) alongside Tim Burton. It is a sequel to 1988's film Beetlejuice. Ortega is also gearing up for Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2, which is scheduled to be released on August 6.
