David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, is confident about the long-term prospects of the new Harry Potter television series and is unwavering in his vision for it.
Zaslav reiterated his earlier promise that the show will run on HBO Max for ten years, far longer than the generally assumed seven-season format based on J.K. Rowling's novels, while speaking on the company's most recent earnings call.
His comments come as Season 1 production is ramping up in and around London, with the highly anticipated premiere set for 2027.
With a surprisingly positive reaction from ardent Wizarding World fans to the first official stills of the cast and sets, momentum is rapidly growing. Nick Frost as a soaring Hagrid, Dominic McLaughlin as The Boy Who Lived, and endearing first looks at Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley as Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia have already been presented to the audience.
Nearly every week, new information about the project is released. Renowned Brazilian cinematographer Adriano Goldman, who has worked on The Crown, Andor, and Jane Eyre, clarified recent rumours that Season 1 might only have six episodes.
Goldman confirmed that the first season will indeed consist of eight episodes in his capacity as lead director of photography. While two other cinematographers will handle the remaining installments, he will personally supervise the first two and last two episodes.
“This season is monumental,” Goldman said in an interview. “It needs to establish a whole universe: scenarios that should last many years, all being created now.” The crew dedicated 18 weeks to pre-production, meticulously crafting the visual world of Hogwarts, Privet Drive, and beyond. “This is the part I consider most rewarding,” Goldman added. “Collaborating from the origin of the project... this joint elaboration of visual content allows a broader collaboration between talented professionals from various areas.”
