Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video director Raaj Shaandilyaa says he had written the role specially for 90s hit actress Mallika Sherawat.
In an exclusive conversation with Money Control, Raaj told us that he only wanted to cast Mallika for the role, and when he called her, she thought he was offering her a song. Raaj said Mallika was surprised, and the moment she heard about her role, she said yes to it.
"I wrote the character only for Mallika Sherawat. I only had Mallika Sherawat in my mind for that role of 1990s ka heroine to be cast opposite Vijay Raaz," Raaj told Money Control.
When we asked him if there are any similarities between Mallika's character Ishika from Welcome (2007), he said there is no similarity at all and that people would love to see this side of the actress.
"There is no similarity between her character in Welcome and this one. This is more family-oriented. In Welcome, she was trying to fool Uday and Majnu; yahan kaafi kuch cheezein kar rahi hai," he said.
Raaj then went on to elaborate that Mallika was shocked to know that she was being offered a role in a Hindi film and not an item song.
"I called her, I have written a character for you, and she was like, really, mujhe laga kuch gaane ke liye bula rahe ho. The moment she heard the role, she immediately said yes to it," Raaj ended.
Mallika is returning to mainstream Bollywood movies after a long hiatus. She was last seen in the Tamil movie 'Pambattam' which was released in Hindi last year.
The actress was loved for her roles in films like Murder, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Welcome, and Hiss, to name a few.
Raaj Shandilyaa's Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is going to release on October 11 and will clash with Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer Jigra. '
