Bridgerton Season 3: Here's everything that we know till now

Bridgerton fans have been long awaiting for the third season of the hit Netflix show. Here's all that we know about it till now!
April 23, 2024 / 14:13 IST

The long awaited third season of the beloved show, Bridgerton, is set to release in 2024. In December, Netflix announced that the third season will contain eight episodes and it will be dropped in two parts. The first four episodes will  be releasing on May 16, 2024 and the next four will be releasing on June 13, 2024.

Bridgerton is based on a series of eight novels written by Julia Quinn and adapted for Netflix by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland productions. The story follows the Bridgerton family consisting of widowed matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell) and her eight children. The children seek marriage matches in the high society of New England.

According to Variety, Bridgerton Season 3 will focus on Penelope, aka Lady Whistledown (Nicola Coughlan), and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) romance, Coughlan first confirmed during the FYSEE panel on May 2022, per Variety. This is where the series takes a different turn than the books. In the books, the next lead is Benedict (Luke Thompson), who takes center stage in An Offer From A Gentleman.

Jess Brownell, the showrunner for season 3, explained the reason behind the change of chronology to Variety in 2022, “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people,” she said. “I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”

Another good news for Bridgerton fans is that Simone Ashley confirmed that she and Johnathan Bailey will be reprising their roles in seasons 3 and 4.  She said, "In season two, there was a lot of push and pull between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they find each other towards the end. I think everything is just starting. I’d like to see Kate just let go a bit more and play more in season three and kind of swim in that circle of love together. I think they both deserve it."

Ashley also said that she would love to see her character have a child in the future. She told IMDB, "I'm excited to see Kate become Viscountess and head of the household. I think she has much to learn from Anthony. They'll be two little partners. I'd love to see them have a baby, to put it simply. Maybe that will happen, maybe it won't."

Season 3 will come back with the Season 1's essence of candy coloured and feather strewn glory and we absolutely cannot wait to swoon over new romances.
