Throwback to when Mammootty played Mohanlal's father despite having only 9 years age gap

Mohanlal and Mammootty are good friends.

Mammootty and Mohanlal are two celebrities who are known for their camaraderie and brotherhood and have been Mollywood’s favourite stars for decades.
They have appeared in over 50+ films and will be seen in the highly-anticipated project, tentatively titled MMMN, directed by Mahesh Narayanan.

The film stars Mohanlal and Mammootty in pivotal roles, along with Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Nayanthara.

In the 1982 epic period movie Padayottam, directed by Jijo Punnoose the actors played the key roles, portraying father and son.

It is partly based on the 1844 novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, who is credited for the story with a screenplay written by N. Govindan Kutty.

The movie featured the tale of a young prince who returns to his homeland to seek vengeance upon those who vanquished his uncle, facing several obstacles in his way.

The film stars Prem Nazir, Madhu, Lakshmi, Shankar, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Mammootty, Mohanlal, N. Govindan Kutty and Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair.

It was a blockbuster at the box office and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the time. Interestingly, the film was a big-budget movie of that time and collected Rs 1 crore while other Malayalam films were collecting Rs 15 lakh back then.

Mammootty was highly appreciated for his portrayal of the role of Kamaran, which went on to become a breakthrough for the actor who largely stayed away from aged roles after that.

On the work front
Mammootty was last seen in the film Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, in his Malayalam debut.

On the other hand, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited L2: Empuraan (also known as L2E) an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
