Thalapathy Vijay, the celebrated South Indian actor, has reached a remarkable milestone by becoming the highest-paid Indian actor, earning an astounding Rs 275 crore for his upcoming film Thalapathy 69, as reported by Filmibeat. Known for consistently delivering blockbuster hits, Vijay’s popularity has grown beyond regional boundaries, making him a pan-India star. This film holds particular significance as it marks his final project before he fully transitions into politics, a move that has been highly anticipated by fans and political observers alike.
Even before its official announcement, Thalapathy 69 has generated immense buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting more details. The film is being produced by a renowned production house that has delivered several blockbusters in the Kannada and Telugu industries and is now making its debut in Kollywood with this project. By securing Vijay with a record-breaking salary, Thalapathy 69 has surpassed the previous earnings of Shah Rukh Khan, who was paid Rs 250 crore for his recent project, making Vijay the highest-paid actor in Indian cinema.
The official announcement of Thalapathy 69 is expected later today (September 13). This film will also mark Vijay’s first collaboration with director H. Vinoth, who is known for his commercial successes. Vinoth has promised fans that Thalapathy 69 will be a complete entertainer catering to a wide audience, and will not touch on political themes, despite Vijay’s imminent political career.
In the meantime, Vijay’s latest release, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), has performed exceptionally well at the Tamil Nadu box office, collecting Rs 178 crore in its first week. On its ninth day, the film recorded an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 33.07%, with night shows reaching 49.89%, reflecting strong interest. However, the Hindi and Telugu versions have not fared as well, earning Rs 11.3 crore and Rs 10.3 crore, respectively.
