Arya’s Sarpatta Parambarai, a punchy sports drama, was one of the few streamers that impressed us with its blood-splattered storytelling and solid performances in 2021. And now, the sequel we’ve all been waiting for has been officially greenlit.
During a chat with Thi Cinemas, Arya has confirmed that the shooting of Sarpatta Parambarai: Round 2 will commence from August this year. Updating about the upcoming sequel, the actor said, “Sarpatta Part-2 shooting start agidumnu (sic).” Pa Ranjith sir is shooting for Vettuvam at present. So once I finish Vettuvam, Sarpatta 2 will get started.”
Directed by Pa Ranjith, the first part of Sarpatta Parambarai was based against the backdrop of 1970s North Chennai, a cauldron of politicised boxing highlighting the intense rivalry between the Sarpatta and the Idiyappa clans. It was not only an examination of the physical nature of the game, but also an examination of the root social and political factors that led to this culture.
The lead of Kabilan was essayed by Arya, and his spectacular portrayal of the character was lauded. The movie also had an ensemble cast of John Kokken, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Dushara Vijayan, Pasupathy, Anupama Kumar, and Sanchana Natarajan.
Although the first part was announced as a theatrical release, it debuted on Amazon Prime Video after a halt in theatres in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Though it was released digitally the film got crazy reception and became successful on both commercial and critical fronts.
In Round 2, Arya is well-prepped to slip into his role, helmed by Pa Ranjith yet again. Details of the plot have been kept closely under wraps, but hopes are high for another hard-hitting addition to the boxing saga.

Aside from Sarpatta 2, Arya has been making the headlines lately as he is also a co-producer on Devil's Double Next Level (DD Next Level) – the follow-up to 2023's DD Returns and the fourth film in the horror-comedy franchise Dhilluku Dhuddu. The Santhanam starrer is slated to release on May 16, 2025. The film also features Geethika Tiwary, Selvaraghavan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Nizhalgal Ravi and Kasthuri Shankar.
The actor is also preparing himself for his upcoming lead character performance in the film Mr. X and shaping up his action body to stay longer in the Tamil film industry.
