Suriya’s Retro trailer to drop on THIS date, here's everything you need to know

As anticipation builds for Retro, the upcoming action-drama starring Suriya and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, fans finally have a date to mark on their calendars — April 18. The film’s much-awaited trailer and audio launch will take place on this date, just ahead of its grand theatrical release slated for May 1.

Shot primarily through 2024 and wrapped by October, Retro has already teased fans with a gripping first look. The teaser hinted at Suriya portraying a conflicted gangster who is trying to walk away from crime for the sake of love. While the core plot remains tightly under wraps, the film promises a unique blend of stylized action, emotional storytelling, and a retro aesthetic.

Produced under Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment in collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films, Retro features Pooja Hegde as the female lead. The star-studded ensemble cast includes acclaimed names like Jayaram, Nasser, Prakash Raj, and Sujith Shankar, alongside fresh faces such as Karunakaran, Tamizh, Prem Kumar, and Remya Suresh.

In March, fans were delighted by a playful update in the form of a comic strip shared by the makers on X (formerly Twitter), titled EPI005: Vaazhga Tamizh! Challenge Accepted! The post highlighted Pooja Hegde’s dedication to the role, revealing that she dubbed her own dialogues in Tamil for the first time. “After an impressive look test, she began her daily Tamil training and surprised everyone by delivering even lengthy monologue sequences flawlessly,” the makers shared.

Behind the scenes, Retro boasts a powerful technical crew. Music director Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, and editor Shafique Mohamed join forces to bring Karthik Subbaraj’s vision to life. The film’s art direction is led by Jackson, with action choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee and costume design by Praveen Raja.
