The much-hyped Tamil movie Suriya 46 has been officially launched today, May 19, with the cast and crew taking part in the pooja of the movie which was graced by the film’s lead actor Suriya, director Venky Atluri, composer GV Prakash, and the rest of the core team. The launch has created a huge uproar among fans, including a surprise update on the film’s female lead.
And although early speculations indicated Bhagyashri Borse as the lead actress, her addition was confirmed in today’s event and it is the Premalu actress Mamitha Baiju. Viral video and pics from the function see Mamitha posing along with Suriya, indicating that she has officially joined the team. But our sources tell us that Bhagyashri is likely to play a significant yet second fiddle character in the movie.
Vaathi and Luckyy Baskhar pairing struck music director GV Prakash Kumar filled X with an exciting post, about their third collaboration. Sharing a pic from the pooja with the director, he wrote, “After #LuckyBaskhar #Vaathi… my third combo with my most successful combination director…let’s rock this venki boyy!” #Suriya46.”
In a previous promo video, Suriya had confirmed the project and had revealed that he was elated to bag the golden opportunity of working with Venky Atluri for the first time. He also thanked producer Allu Aravind for backing him. Talking of the project the Kanguva star said, “This will be my next film. A lot of you have been waiting for this. My next film in Tamil will be with Venky and I’m going to spend a lot of time in beautiful Hyderabad.” Shoot for the same will begin from May.”
What's more, there's a possibility that Vijay Deverakonda would be cast as Suriya's co-actor in an important role, as reported by Sun News. His presence at the Retro pre-release function, where Suriya first announced the film, too, has kept the guessing game on. Nothing has been confirmed by Deverakonda or the team of the movie, though.

Backed by Sithara Entertainments, Suriya 46 looks like an interesting Tamil commercial entertainer that could have multi-lingual reach given that actors from other film industries too have been rumoured to be part of this project. As the shooting kicks off in Hyderabad, expect more updates and surprises in the next few weeks.
