In Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious film adaptation of the Ramayana, veteran actor Sunny Deol is getting ready to play Lord Hanuman, one of the most iconic mythological roles of his career.
Sunny Deol has now expressed his excitement, concerns, and hopes for the film's scope and impact. The extremely ambitious project, which stars some of the best talent in Indian cinema, has already created a lot of buzz.
Speaking in a recent interview with Zoom, the actor admitted that embodying such a revered character comes with a mixture of thrill and nervous anticipation. “It will be exciting, it will be fun. It’s going to be great, it’s going to be beautiful,” he remarked with optimism.
At the same time, Deol acknowledged the enormity of the responsibility. “See, nervousness or fear, that factor is there. But that’s the beauty of it, because you have to find within yourself how you’re going to take up the challenge and how you’re going to live up to it. And you’re getting the opportunity to do it, and I’m very sure Amit, the producer, they’re doing a great job of it,” he explained.
The actor revealed that filming for his portions will begin shortly and expressed confidence that the film’s visual grandeur will rival international productions. “Because they are going to bring out those supernatural things and those effects on screen, which I hope, fingers crossed, are nothing less than what Hollywood has. I mean, how many times has it been made, and how many Ramlilas happen? When it comes to the big screen, the way all the actors involved in it are performing, I’m sure there will be justice to everything, and people will feel satisfied and enjoy the whole film,” he added.
Deol also praised his co-star Ranbir Kapoor, who essays the role of Lord Ram, noting the younger actor’s commitment and depth of performance. “It’s going to be great because he’s such a fine actor, and he always takes up a project and lives it completely,” he said.
The epic saga, which is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is expected to rank among the largest Indian film productions ever.
In addition to Sunny Deol and Ranbir Kapoor, the cast features Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as the powerful Ravana. The first installment of the Ramayana is slated to be released on Diwali 2026, and the second installment will be released on Diwali 2027.
