Squid Game 3 could have a different finale

Netflix has recently dropped the highly anticipated finale of Squid Game Season 3, sparking a debate among viewers over its shocking ending. The creator has been receiving widespread backlash since the release of the finale.

However, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has recently revealed that there is an alternate ending to the thriller series.

During a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, Dong-hyuk revealed that this wasn't the original ending. He claimed that it was just a "vague idea" of how he would end the story in the beginning.

Dong-hyuk explained, “Back then, it was having Gi-hun end the game, in one way or another, and leave alive and go see his daughter in America. So originally, I thought the person who witnesses the American recruiter woman would be Gi-hun.”

He further revealed that as he started writing the ending, he started to think more about what he wanted to deliver with the ending of this story, what should be Gi-hun's journey and what his destination should be.

He continued, “I was witnessing more and more what was happening around the world and I thought it was more fitting for Gi-hun to send this powerful and impactful message to the world [with his death] and that should be how the story comes to a close.”

Dong-hyuk further added, "The world seems to be headed for the worst. It seems to be becoming, in so many different ways, so much worse ahead. I thought, 'What kind of sacrifices do we need to make in the current generation for us to be able to leave the future generation with a better world?'"

He emphasised, "So I wanted Gi-hun's sacrifice to be a symbol of that.”

In the finale, Seong Gi-hun returns to the deadly games in a last bid to bring them down for good. However, things got messy after his plans didn't go as he had expected, and he was forced to sacrifice himself to save another player's baby. Gi-hun left many of his followers devastated and criticising the writer.
