Motorists and commuters across Glasgow are being urged to prepare for major travel disruption as filming for the upcoming Spider-Man movie kicks off this week. The latest instalment in the Marvel franchise, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will see Tom Holland reprise his role as the beloved web-slinging hero, under the direction of Destin Daniel Cretton.
While cameras are set to roll from 1st August, the impact on the city has already begun. Film crews have started arriving, and Glasgow City Council has confirmed that 56 roads across the city will be affected by closures, parking restrictions, and bus lane suspensions for over two weeks.
According to a report by Glassgow Times, the production is expected to cause delays, detours, and congestion, particularly along key commuter routes in the city centre.
In addition to vehicular restrictions, pedestrian access will also be limited during active filming, especially in areas covered under the "Prohibition of Vehicle Movements" order. The restrictions will only be enforced during actual filming periods to minimise inconvenience.
Residents and pedestrians are urged to follow signage and comply with instructions from on-site stewards or film crew personnel to ensure safety and avoid interrupting the shoot.
Adding to the buzz is speculation that Sadie Sink, best known for her role in Stranger Things, will star alongside Holland in this much-anticipated sequel.
Tom Holland recently confirmed to the Glasgow Times that the Scottish city will serve as a major backdrop for the film’s action sequences. Speaking about his return as Peter Parker, he said: “I’m obviously over the moon and so excited.

“Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie.
"We shot the entire film on stages. Now we’re really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow.
"We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.”
