Bastian Bandra, one of Mumbai’s most celebrated fine dine destinations, is closing its doors on Thursday (September 4) , marking the end of a defining era for the city’s culinary and nightlife landscape. The flagship property, co-owned by Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and spearheaded by Bastian Hospitality under the leadership of Founder & CEO Ranjit Bindra, has long been synonymous with indulgent dining, high-profile gatherings, and a lively social scene.
As the iconic Bandra space bids adieu, the Bastian brand is preparing to open two fresh chapters in its evolving journey.
From mid-October, the Bandra outlet will be reborn as Ammakai, a specialty South Indian restaurant.
The name translates to “the mother’s hand,” a phrase chosen to capture comfort, authenticity, and warmth. Ammakai promises to celebrate South India’s diverse culinary heritage, featuring regional recipes, traditional flavours, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.
Simultaneously, Bastian is expanding its footprint with an exciting new venture in Juhu. The Bastian Beach Club aims to bring the brand’s signature mix of indulgence, energy, and celebration to Mumbai’s shoreline.
Positioned as a coastal lifestyle destination, it will offer guests a vibrant new space to dine, unwind, and experience the spirited essence of Bastian in an entirely different setting.
Announcing the transition, Ranjit Bindra reflected on the brand’s journey so far in his statement.
“Bandra was our beginning, and while that chapter closes, two new stories are waiting to be written. Bandra was where Bastian’s journey began, and it will always remain close to us. As we evolve, it feels right to honour the depth of South Indian cuisine through Ammakai, while also bringing the energy and indulgence of Bastian to Juhu in a fresh new way. We’re closing one chapter, but two new stories are waiting to be written, and we can’t wait to welcome you into them.”

While the news of Bastian Bandra’s closure signals a major shift in Mumbai’s dining scene, it comes against a backdrop of wider media attention on Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra.
The couple has recently been linked to a Rs 60-crore fraud allegation, which their legal team has strongly denied. Despite the controversy, the Bastian brand appears firmly focused on its culinary vision and continued expansion.
