Superstar Shah Rukh Khan won the best actor award at the IIFA award night on Saturday, September 28, for his spectacular performance in Jawan. He revealed that he and his family faced a "tough time" during the development of Jawan. However, he expressed his joy in finishing the year on a high note after winning the Best Actor award for the action blockbuster at the IIFA Awards 2024 ceremony.
Directed by Atlee, Jawan explores the emotional journey of a man determined to right societal wrongs. Shah Rukh Khan played dual roles as Vikram Rathore and his son, Azad. While hosting Saturday's IIFA Awards alongside Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar, Shah Rukh mentioned that he generally prefers not to discuss his personal life, but he revealed that Jawan was created under significant stress.
While accepting the award, the actor said, "We all were going through a little bit of a tough time while making Jawan… It’s good to be back. I’m extremely grateful for this award. I love awards, I’m greedy about awards… I’m genuinely back and I’m really happy to end the year like this…"
The actor stated that he was accepting the award on behalf of all three of his 2023 releases- Jawan, Pathaan, and Dunki. "I have a little happiness from the audience this year because I have worked after a long time. So, I take this award for all the three films that I happen to do this year — the wonderful Dunki, the magnificent Pathaan, and absolutely mad Jawan," stated the actor as he returned to the big screen after a five-year hiatus following the release of Zero in 2018.
Shah Rukh also went on to thank his wife, Gauri Khan, who also served as the producer of Jawan. "Somebody has to put the money in the film, so I'd like to thank Gauri, the producer. She must be the only wife spending more money on the husband than the husband does on the wife. I'm thankful for her but in all seriousness, for her patience, goodwill, kindness," the actor said.
Shah Rukh took a break after the release of Zero in 2018 due to the underperformance of some of his films at the box office. The challenges at home were compounded when his eldest son, Aryan Khan, was arrested in connection with the Mumbai cruise drugs case in 2021, spending 22 days in jail. During this period, the family faced intense media scrutiny. Fortunately, in 2022, Aryan was exonerated of all charges.
The star expressed his gratitude to Atlee, along with co-stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, and the rest of the crew and team for their contributions to Jawan. he noted that they all dedicated themselves tirelessly for two to three years to bring the film Jawan to fruition, and he conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to each of them.

Shah Rukh Khan also acknowledged his fellow nominees, including Ranveer Singh for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, Ranbir Kapoor for Animal, Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail, Vicky Kaushal for Sam Bahadur, and Sunny Deol for Gadar 2. He emphasized that each of them deserves recognition in their own right.
