Mohit Suri's much-anticipated romantic drama Saiyaara, which marks the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, is all set to hit the big screens this week. However, before its release, the film underwent a round of scrutiny by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which led to a few mandatory edits.
The CBFC has granted Saiyaara a U/A 16+ certificate, but not without recommending changes that include the removal of intimate visuals and certain language modifications.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the board asked the filmmakers to tone down some of the content deemed too bold for the certification. A 10-second sequence featuring “sensual, intimacy, body exposure visuals” was cut from the final version. Moreover, four instances of what the CBFC labeled as 'objectionable' language were also edited. These words were replaced with more ‘appropriate’ alternatives to make the film suitable for a wider audience, especially younger viewers within the U/A 16+ category.
The board also instructed the inclusion of a static warning promoting helmet safety during all scenes that involve riding two-wheeler vehicles. This is part of a broader initiative by the CBFC to encourage responsible messaging in mainstream cinema, particularly in films targeted at impressionable audiences.
Despite the censorship cuts, the buzz around Saiyaara remains strong. The film, with a revised runtime of 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 50 seconds, has already created waves with its trailer and advance booking response. Ticket sales opened with a bang, and early indicators suggest that the film may enjoy a successful opening at the box office.
Fans and industry insiders alike are keen to see Ahaan Panday’s on-screen charisma, with many noting his confident presence in the promotional material. Aneet Padda, too, has garnered attention for her promising screen presence. With Mohit Suri at the helm, known for crafting emotional and music-rich narratives, expectations from Saiyaara are high.
While the CBFC’s edits have slightly trimmed the film’s original content, the essence of the story appears intact. As excitement continues to build, all eyes are now on the film’s performance in its opening weekend.
