Saif Ali Khan recently addressed a curious question many fans have had—does he have anything against television? The actor, known for his role in the popular Netflix series Sacred Games, clarified that while he holds no negative views about TV, he doesn’t see OTT content as the same. “There were one or two people who asked my manager if I was doing TV now. There is nothing against TV; it’s a great medium. But I don’t think the Netflix series is like TV at all; there are differences,” Saif told IANS.
This statement comes as his latest project Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins dropped on Netflix on April 25, 2025. Reflecting on his OTT journey, Saif remarked, “It felt nothing like television,” sparking speculation that he may prefer the cinematic freedom and quality associated with streaming platforms.
Saif further elaborated on how his perspective as an actor has evolved. “As time passes by, I value being in front of the camera even more,” he said, underlining his deepening connection to performance over time. He emphasized that the size of a project or the platform it’s on doesn’t matter as much as the craft itself. “What matters is the performance,” he added.
He also praised today’s content landscape, noting the abundance of talent and high-quality storytelling available across formats. “It’s important to respect the platform and strive for excellence, no matter the scale of the film or series,” Saif shared, signaling his belief in delivering quality work irrespective of the medium.
For those unfamiliar, Sacred Games marked Saif’s OTT debut in 2018, where he played Inspector Sartaj Singh. The gripping thriller received widespread acclaim and featured actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in key roles.
His latest film Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins sees him don the role of a conman alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, who plays a powerful crime boss. The plot centers around their mission to steal a priceless African diamond called the Red Sun. The action-packed film, directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal and produced by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand, also stars Nikita Dutta and Kunal Kapoor. Ahlawat even surprised fans with a viral dance number titled Jaadu, which features sizzling chemistry between Saif and Nikita.
