Actor Sai Pallavi, riding high on the success of her recent film Thandel, alongside Naga Chaitanya, recently revealed in an interview that she always 'always wanted' a National Award for a very sweet reason.
In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Sai Pallavi expressed that she wanted to win the award so that she could flaunt a saree gifted by her granny at the National level. Sai shared, "I've always wanted a National Award because when I was around 21 years old, my granny gave me a saree and said, wear this for your wedding."
Sai further revealed that her granny was very sick at the time and had undergone surgery. She added, "So that time I thought marriage was next, I hadn't done my first film yet. As I was nearing 23-24 I did Premam." After the big hit, Sai thought, "Someday I'll win some big award. That time, the National Award was the big award."
The actor explained why winning the award was important to her saying, "So, for me, the National Award is directly connected to the saree. Whether I hope for it or the pressure is there, it's only as far as this." She elaborated to the outlet, "But honestly, if people are able to feel what my character feels on-screen, that’s my job, and that’s enough. Whatever comes after that is just a bonus for me to feel good. I value this a little more than that."
Sai was hoping to win the prestigious award for her 2022 Box Office blockbuster film Gargi. Helmed by Gautham Ramachandran, the female-led film received critics' praise and grossed over 13 crores. Fans were left disappointed with the snub and claimed that the film deserved the award. Sai starred alongside Kaali Venkat and Saravanan in the hit film.
Sai Pallavi was last seen in Thandel, currently running in cinemas. She will soon make her Bollywood debut with Ek Din starring alongside Junaid Khan.
