Sunny Deol was a distinguished guest at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025, held in Delhi on April 8. During his session, the veteran actor spoke about the remarkable resurgence of his younger brother, Bobby Deol, in the film industry—particularly through his powerful antagonist roles in Aashram and Animal. He also addressed the possibility of taking on a villainous role himself, if offered one in the future.
While speaking at the summit, Sunny reflected on the challenges actors face when they're typecast. He noted that once an actor becomes associated with a certain kind of role, it becomes increasingly difficult to break free from that image.
Commending Bobby's recent work, he acknowledged that his brother managed to break that mold and make a strong impact with his performances. Sunny praised Bobby's transformation, stating that he embraced the change and delivered commendable work in his negative roles.
When he was asked about his reaction when Bobby Deol played the role of an antagonist, the Gadar actor said, "As actors chahe woh hero ka role ho ya villain ka role ho, we are supposed to do it and tabhi hume mazza aata hai jab hume alag alag Tarah ke characters diye jaat hain. Aksar log aapko dete nhi hain dusre characters kyunki aapka image waise banjata hai toh aapko waise kahani nhi milti jisse ab aap image todke dusre taraf chale jao (As actors—whether it’s the role of a hero or a villain—we are meant to perform it all. And we truly enjoy it when we’re given different kinds of characters to play. But often, people don’t offer you varied roles because you get typecast with a certain image. As a result, you don’t get the kind of stories that would allow you to break that image and explore something different)."
He further stated, "And I think Bobby ko yeh mauka mila hai and usne bohot achese kiya hai. Aur obviously jab woh Ashram bhi karrahe the toh unhone bola bhaiya please aaplog dekhna mat (And I think Bobby got that opportunity, and he did a really good job with it. And obviously, when he was doing Aashram, he told us, "Bhaiya, please don’t watch it)."
Sunny then emphasised on his reaction watching Bobby in Ashram initially as the villain. "Ashram nhi dekhi hai but Animal dekhi but then again being family, jab usko marrahe the toh gussa bada aaraha tha (I haven’t watched Aashram, but I did watch Animal. But then again, being family, when he was being beaten up, I was feeling really angry,)' the actor said as he laughed.
Sunny Deol went on to say that while watching Bobby, it didn’t feel like it was him on screen—it genuinely felt like he had fully become the character he was portraying.

In another major revelation, Sunny deol also stated that in future projects if a producer brings a good script, then he will definitely play an antagonist. "I would love to do it," Sunny said.
Sunny Deol is currently gearing up for his upcoming film Jaat, set to release on April 10, 2025. He stars alongside Randeep Hooda in the mass-action film. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, Jaat is backed by South Indian production house Mythri Movie Makers.
