Mammootty, who is one of the senior most actors of Malayalam cinema, in a recent interview, has mentioned that he is happier and more creative as an actor now.
This is only after he has transitioned from performing traditional hero roles to 'senior' or character roles. The actor spoke to the media ahead of the release of his film Kalamkaval, which will be out on December 5.
Mammootty, who had just come back to work after being sick for a brief period, stated in a video his business put out that taking on bigger roles has made him a better actor.
He could still be the main character in a romance movie if he wanted to, but he doesn't enjoy the same old "hero" stories.
He said that for a long period he had played love leads, action parts, and other types of characters. But now that he's older and wiser, "moving up to senior roles" has given him new opportunities. He is the wicked person in Kalamkaval. He said, "A hero has limits," while "the bad guy has none." He is not a normal bad guy, but he is also not a typical good guy.

Mammootty stated he was fearless since he didn't take on activities that weren't fun or easy. He picked them because he wanted to get better at acting. He remarked that being famous affected him, but he would rather make the "actor" inside him happy. "I won't lie and say it didn't make me a star, but I like being an actor better," he remarked.
It's clear from this mindset that the director is purposely not making movies about heroes and stars. The 74-year-old actor doesn't seem to mind taking on roles that are more complex, dark, or subtle and stretch him as an artist, even if they aren't heroic. More and more critics and fans are liking this.
Mammootty's words show that Indian cinema is changing in a fundamental way: elderly performers are becoming more than just stars.
They may be able to break out of typecasting and add depth to varied roles since they are experienced, mature, and willing to try new things. This seems like a normal thing for a renowned person who has appeared in more than 400 movies in five different languages over the last 50 years.
Mammootty seems to teach all performers an important lesson: genuine creativity is about taking on hard roles, not earning attention. He is 74 years old, and he is showing that age can make some roles harder yet performing can be more fun.
