Ajith Kumar admits sacrificing family time for racing, reflects on wife Shalini support: 'Children hardly get to see me'

Tamil actor-racer Ajith Kumar was in Barcelona, Spain, to take part in the 24-hour endurance race via Ajith Kumar Racing. The actor is an avid racer and has to spend most time on the racing track. The actor also admitted that he has sacrificed his family time to pursue his career in motorsport.

In a recent interview with India Today, Ajith Kumar admitted that while he was on the track, his wife, Shalini, held the fort. He also reflected on whether he wants his kids to follow in his footsteps.

The actor and the racer said, “There are so many things that Shalini is handling. If not for her support, I wouldn’t be able to do all this. Looking after the home, the children, when I am away, it is not just a sacrifice on my side. The children hardly get to see me, and I miss them as much as they miss me. These are the things that are never seen or understood. But when you love something so dearly, you have to make your sacrifices.”

The actor-racer further revealed that when he and his wife got married in the year 2002, he briefly got back to racing. He also revealed how his wife was present at every event. After the birth of their children, Anoushka Kumar and Aadvik Kumar, she only stepped back to care for them.

While speaking about his desire to avoid forcing his kids to follow in his footsteps, he said, “My son loves it too – he’s started go-carting, but not on a serious level yet. I’ll give him time to decide if he really wants to pursue it. Be it films or racing, I would not want to force my views on them. I want them to come on their own and support them in every way possible.”

The couple first met in 1999 on the sets of Amarkalam, and before getting married, they dated each other in 2000. Shalini was a child actor in the very beginning, before playing lead roles in the film. However, she stepped away from films in order to dedicate herself to bringing up their children.
On the work front, Ajith is yet to announce his upcoming film and was last seen in Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly this year.
