Pooja Entertainments, led by veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky Bhagnani, has faced one of its toughest years in recent times.
After the pandemic, the production house struggled to regain its footing. When several of its high-budget films failed one after another, the financial strain became hard to ignore.
Headlines about layoffs, debts, and mortgaged properties soon followed. These stories painted a bleak picture of a once-thriving company.
Amid all this, actor Rakul Preet Singh, who is married to Jackky, has spoken openly about how the family dealt with this challenging time.
In a candid conversation with Humans of Bombay, Rakul revealed that while the situation was undeniably stressful, much of what was written about it was exaggerated or simply incorrect.
"It was a very challenging time for the family and for him. But a lot of things said in the news weren't even correct. No company is shut. I didn't even know because I don't read. I was unbothered because I knew things first-hand. Yes, it's a fact that two to three films didn't work, and it was a huge blow that brought a lot of financial loss but that happens with every producer. It even happened to Amitabh Bachchan at one point. This is all a phase,” she said.
Rakul further shared how she dealt with the emotional toll by grounding herself in gratitude.
“Any situation in life has two ways of looking at it. I can either register all the wrong things happening or be grateful that I have a roof over my head and a healthy body. I can either say, 'My film didn't do Rs 500 crore but someone else's did,' or I can be grateful that I have a film, I am working, and people are liking my work,” she said.
The company’s troubles began stacking up after Mission Raniganj, Ganapath, and the big-ticket Bade Miyan Chote Miyan underperformed.
The last film, reportedly mounted on a staggering Rs 400-crore budget, hit the hardest. In its aftermath, Vashu Bhagnani filed an FIR against director Ali Abbas Zafar, accusing him of inflating production costs.

Reports also surfaced about unpaid staff wages which were later cleared by the Bhagnani family itself.
As speculation grew, stories claimed the Bhagnanis had let go nearly 80 percent of their staff and mortgaged multiple properties.
Some reports even declared their seven-storey Mumbai office building was being sold. However, Vashu later clarified it was merely being redeveloped, not sold.
