More than a year after its theatrical release, Rajinikanth’s sports drama Lal Salaam is finally going digital. The film directed by Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth will be released on SUN NXT starting June 6th, the 57th birthday of Rajinikanth which also marks the festival of Eid-Al-Adha (Bakrid).
The news was shared on the official X (previously known as Twitter) handle of SUN NXT along with a teaser clip and the text: “Stay tuned & Guess who’s firing up the screen this Bakrid? For more hype, another noted film tracker, Christopher Kanagaraj, has also confirmed the release date as well as saying the film will be available to stream next week.
Lal Salaam garnered mixed reviews upon release. Even as viewers lauded its social messaging and AR Rahman’s sensational score, it was unable to sustain momentum at the box office.
The plot of the film is about two friends Thiru and Shamsuddin formed from the town of Murarbad both being talented cricket players in their own right.
They may belong to different religious groups but they have a unique friendship that is reminiscent of the unity of their fathers. But the election time politics and manipulation of the leaders lead to betting and one of the leaders bet with Viswanath that his team will win the match, where they sell out their friendship and turn the match into a war in a playground.

What we get is an emotion-stirring account of unity of mankind, sporting redemption and sport's power to bring a divided community together. In the end the film is about peace and coexistence with cricket being both the battle ground and the bridge.
Lal Salaam also stars Vishnu Vishal, Vikranth, Vivek Prasanna, Senthil, Dhanya Balakrishna and Livingston in pivotal roles. The movie has been written by Vishnu Rangaswamy and directed by Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth. Lal Salaam is supported by Lyca Productions and stars the music of legendary composer AR Rahman for the film’s soundtrack and background score.
