Though it barely missed hitting the Rs 50 crore mark in its first three days, Ajay Devgn's eagerly anticipated Raid 2 has gotten off to a strong start at the box office.
As a follow-up to the 2018 blockbuster Raid, the movie came with high expectations from the industry and fans alike because of the success of the first one and Devgn's prominence in the genre. But by the end of the third day, the total amount collected was Rs 49.25 crore, which was just under half a century.
The movie made an astounding Rs 19.25 crore on its first day of release, kicking off its theatrical run on a high note. In addition to being a strong start, this number put Raid 2 ahead of films like Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan to become Ajay Devgn's second-highest opening since the pandemic. Singham Again, which dominated the box office with Rs 43.5 crore on Day 1, continues to hold his top opening day total.
However, Raid 2 saw a notable 37.66% decline on its second day, earning Rs 12 crore. Since the movie came out on a Thursday, which is a public holiday in Maharashtra because of Labour Day, the drop was somewhat expected, and Day 1 was packed. The movie made a strong comeback on Saturday, with preliminary estimates putting its earnings at Rs 18 crore. Positive word-of-mouth, Devgn's popularity in mass circuits, and the start of the weekend all contributed significantly to this surge.
The total collection ended at Rs 49.25 crore, just short of Rs 50 crore, despite the encouraging momentum. The fierce three-way competition at the box office is cited by trade analysts as a major factor preventing it from reaching its full potential. There was a split in the audience's attention as Retro held its own in Tamil Nadu while Hit 3 did remarkably well in Telugu regions.
Raid 2, which was directed by Rajkumar Gupta, features Ajay Devgn in key roles alongside Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, and Saurabh Shukla. Now, everyone is watching the movie's performance on Sunday to see if it can keep up its momentum and surpass important milestones in the coming days.
