Boney Kapoor mourns the loss of his mother

After his mother, Nirmal Surinder Kapoor, passed away on May 2, 2025, at the age of 90, renowned director Boney Kapoor released a heartfelt statement. She had long struggled with an age-related illness. The mother of Bollywood stars Boney, Anil, and Sanjay Kapoor, Nirmal Kapoor was the matriarch of the well-known Kapoor family.

The Kapoor family announced her death with a moving tribute.

“Passed away peacefully on the 2nd of May, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. She lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind four devoted children, loving daughters-in-law, a caring son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of treasured memories," the statement read.

In a further expression of their grief and remembrance, the statement added,
“Her generous spirit and boundless love touched all who knew her. She will remain in our hearts–forever cherished, and forever missed. Boney, Anil, Reena, Sanjay, Sunita, Sandeep, Maheep, Mohit, Akshay, Sonam, Arjun, Rhea, Harshvarrdhan, Anshula, Janhvi, Shanaya, Khushi, Jahaan, Antara, Anand, Aashita, Karan, Thea, Vayu, Ayra, Yuvaan."

The late Surinder Kapoor, a well-known producer in the Hindi film business, was married to Nirmal Kapoor. Being the matriarch of one of the most powerful families in Bollywood, she was frequently spotted at family gatherings, movie premieres, and public gatherings where she was well-received by both peers and fans.

Because of her warmth, dignity, and unwavering support for her children and grandchildren—many of whom are now prominent figures in Indian cinema—she was highly regarded in the industry's social circle.

A number of well-known members of the film industry, including Jackie Shroff, Farah Khan, Anupam Kher, and Neelam Kothari, paid their final respects and condolences at the Kapoor residence after her death.
