Actor Rahul Dev has extended heartfelt thanks to fans, friends, and members of the film industry for their overwhelming support following the untimely demise of his brother, Mukul Dev. The actor and writer passed away on Friday night at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy of work across Hindi, Punjabi, South Indian films, and television.
On Sunday evening, Rahul took to Instagram to share a monochrome portrait of his late brother, writing, “Sincere thanks to all for the love and kind wishes showered on Mukul… Grateful…”
Mukul Dev's final rites were held on Saturday at Dayanand Mukti Dham in Nizamuddin West, Delhi. News of his passing sparked a wave of tributes from colleagues and admirers across the entertainment world.
Superstar Salman Khan, who had acted alongside Mukul in the 2014 action drama Jai Ho, mourned the loss with a poignant post on Instagram Stories. Sharing a rare throwback picture with Mukul, he wrote, “Miss you, my dear brother Mukul. Rest in peace.”
Actor Vindu Dara Singh, who co-starred with Mukul in Son of Sardaar, spoke candidly to ETimes about the actor’s struggles in recent years. “I don’t think he was suffering from any disease but he used to drink a lot and would have gutkha. He had become overweight and he battled loneliness,” said Vindu. He added that Mukul had a daughter, but she was not living with him. “He was making his comeback with Son of Sardaar, but the sad part is he won’t be there to see it. It is very tragic news,” he reflected.
Though the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, reports suggest Mukul had been unwell and hospitalised in the days leading up to his passing.
