Priyanka Chopra's mother Madhu Chopra recently appeared on the Something Bigger Show where she revealed a lesser-known aspect of PC's entry into the film industry. According to Madhu, Priyanka, who made her acting debut with the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2002, was initially hesitant to pursue a career in acting.
Madhu Chopra shared that Priyanka was more inclined towards furthering her education rather than stepping into the world of cinema. Despite winning the Miss World pageant in 2000, Priyanka had her sights set on becoming a criminal psychologist or an aeronautical engineer. "There were a lot of people coming to sign films with her. But, she didn’t want to, because she wanted to study. She was a brilliant and intelligent girl. Her objective was something else. This just happened. She had all those plans in her head, but destiny had other plans," Madhu recalled.
Madhu further elaborated on the moment Priyanka signed her first film contract. “The first film she signed, there were big blobs of tears on that contract.” Despite Priyanka's reluctance, her mother encouraged her to give acting a try during the summer, with the assurance that she could return to her studies if she didn't enjoy it. "Studies don’t go anywhere. It’s an opportunity, see if you like it, no one is forcing you. I had to put the pressure on her. When she did it, she kind of liked it. But she went back to college, more offers came, and then that’s history," Madhu added.
This marked the beginning of Priyanka's illustrious acting career, and at the same time it also brought her closer to her mother. Madhu accompanied Priyanka on her journey, supporting her through the ups and downs. “I saw her grow, she started doing better. I was always there with her to help her along, be there for her, and take care of her. I was travelling with her, it brought us closer. It helped both of us grow together. We got to talk like adults and understand each other better,” Madhu said.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas has since become a global icon, balancing her career in both Bollywood and Hollywood. She was last seen with Richard Madden in the Amazon Prime Video series Citadel and will next be seen in the action-comedy film Heads of State. She also has The Bluff, and the next season of the highly anticipated series Citadel in the pipeline.
