Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan opened up about the many labels often associated with him — and why none of them fully capture who he is. In an interview with India Today, Harihara Veera Mallu actor said, “I don’t consider myself either as a Hindutva hero or as a power star,” he said. “Whatever comes my way, I try to give my best. I’m comfortable as a leader, I’m comfortable as a Deputy Chief Minister… Whatever the situation demands out of me, I give my 100%.”
Kalyan’s latest film Harihara Veera Mallu features him as a warrior on a fictional quest to retrieve the Kohinoor diamond from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. While some might read the antagonist’s Mughal identity as politically loaded, Kalyan clarified that the script was conceived as early as 2018, long before his alliance with the BJP. “This plot was conceived by the scriptwriter-director Krish Jagarlamudi around 2018. We didn’t even have a BJP alliance then,” he said. “It’s a fictitious story… a rivalry between Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah and Aurangzeb.”
Kalyan also touched upon the need for a more objective reading of history, especially when it comes to school textbooks.
On the political front, Kalyan said he’s in no rush to expand Janasena Party’s presence in Tamil Nadu despite recent visits.
