What is Diesel about?
The main character of the movie is a young fisherman named Vasudevan, who is also called "Diesel" Vasu. He holds a degree in engineering with a focus on chemicals. His life changes a lot when his foster father gets connected with a group that smuggles gasoline in North Chennai.
Vasu uses his technical skills to get into the illegal gasoline trade, and as time goes on, he assumes command of the business. He has to contend with a corrupt police officer and deadly smugglers who are his foes as he becomes a Robin Hood-like figure for the people in his neighbourhood.
The plot becomes a dramatic game of cat and mouse that shows Chennai's secret diesel mafia and the political ties that surround it.
When it came out, Diesel had a lot of competition at the box office from Dhruv Vikram's Bison and Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude. People who saw the movie and critics both gave it mixed to unfavourable reviews, but they enjoyed Harish Kalyan's acting and the music.
