Oscar-nominated actor Graham Greene dies at 73

Oscar-nominated actor Graham Greene passed away on Monday, September 1. The actor, known for his performance in Dances With Wolves, took his last breath in Stratford, Ontario. He was 73.

Graham Greene’s agent, Michael Greene, has recently shared in an official statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed.”

While referring to the actor’s longtime agent, who died in 2013, Michael added, “You are finally free. Susan Smith is meeting you at the gates of heaven.”

The veteran actor is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore; daughter Lilly Lazare-Greene; and grandson Tarlo.

For the unversed, Graham Greene was born on June 22, 1952, in Ohsweken on the Six Nations Reserve. He graduated from the Centre for Indigenous Theatre Program in 1974.

Graham Greene made his small-screen debut on the 1979 Canadian drama series The Great Detective. The veteran actor made his film debut in Running Brave (1983). He earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his role of Kicking Bird in the 1990 film Dances With Wolves.

Dances With Wolves received seven Academy Awards, including one for best picture, out of its twelve nominations. Graham's career reached new heights after the movie; he starred in the Stratford Festival and appeared in over 200 films and television shows.

Graham Greene’s notable credits include Maverick (1994), Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995), The Green Mile (1999), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) and Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game (2017).

The veteran actor has also starred in Thunderheart (1992) opposite Val Kilmer, Transamerica (2005), Wind River (2017) and on the FX series Reservation Dogs.

Graham Greene’s most recent credit includes the Tyler Sheridan series 1883 and Tulsa King.

The veteran actor has received several awards and nominations throughout his career. He has received a Grammy and the Earle Grey Lifetime Achievement Award. He received an honorary doctor of law degree in June 2008 from Sir Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.

Graham Greene had also received the Order of Canada and the Governor General’s Award.
