South Korean actor Nam Yoon Su has landed in hot water after an unexpected repost on his Instagram sparked outrage online. The repost, which many netizens deemed provocative, quickly went viral, raising questions about whether it was an unfortunate accident or a deliberate move.
The controversy began when Nam’s Instagram account reshared a questionable post that many fans found surprising and out of character. The actor, known for his roles in Extracurricular and, more recently, Love in the Big City, was quick to react.
In a now-deleted update, he addressed the situation directly, writing, “I just saw this repost while I was driving. Was I hacked? I found out about this because fans let me know about it.”
He further explained that his feed typically consists of innocuous content, sharing a screenshot of his algorithm to prove his point. “I didn’t even know the repost button was pressed. Could this be malware?” he speculated, suggesting that he may have been hacked or the post might have been reshared due to an unknown glitch.
However, skepticism remained high among netizens. Nam Yoon Su’s agency soon stepped in to provide an official statement, clarifying, “This happened while his phone was in his pocket. If he had pressed it while looking at it, he would have apologized, but it seems that he accidentally pressed it while his phone was in his pocket."
The statement continued, "Nam Yoon Su and the company found out about it through fan reports, and the post was deleted not long after it was reposted. If he had reposted it by accident, wouldn’t he have deleted it immediately?”
Despite the explanation, followers continued to express doubt. Many questioned the actor’s algorithm, asking what type of content he normally engages with for such posts to appear in his feed. Some users pointed out past rumours about his social media activity, including following female BJs (broadcast jockeys).
