In disappointing news for fans of the historical fantasy series, My Lady Jane, streaming giant Prime Video has decided to cancel the show after just one season.

The series, which premiered on June 27, 2024, failed to garner a wide enough audience to warrant a second season despite a strong critical reception and a dedicated fanbase.

According to Deadline, the show's absence from Nielsen's Top 10 weekly streaming rankings upon its release was one of the major reasons to cancel its second season. This lack of viewership ultimately led to Prime Video's decision to cancel the series.

My Lady Jane offered a fictionalized and more empowering take on the life story of Lady Jane Grey. Often referred to as the Nine Days' Queen, she is a tragic figure in English history. Forced onto the throne at the tender age of 15, her reign was abruptly ended in just 9 days as she met a gruesome fate and was killed brutally.

The show offered a fresh take on the historical figure. Starring Emily Bader, the series reimagined the life of the nine-day queen, Lady Jane Grey. Instead of showing Jane as a helpless woman unable to save herself, the show presented a more empowered protagonist navigating a world filled with shape-shifting creatures known as Ethians.

My Lady Jane is based on the novel of the same name by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.

Interestingly, the show's cliffhanger ending set the stage for an exciting second season, leaving viewers eager to explore the continuation of Jane's story. Unfortunately, the show's cancellation means these unanswered questions will remain unresolved.

Emily Bader brought Lady Jane Grey to life, while Edward Bluemel portrayed her husband, Lord Guildford Dudley. Besides them, the show features a stellar cast including Jordan Peters, Kate O'Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Henry Ashton, Jim Broadbent and Dominic Cooper.
