Singer, songwriter and actor Justin Timberlake has been detained on charges of driving under the influence in Long Island, New York.
A spokesperson for the Sag Harbor Police Department informed PEOPLE that as of the morning of Tuesday, June 18, the 43-year-old singer is still in custody. A formal statement from the police is expected later today.
According to CBS News, a US affiliate of the BBC, Justin Timberlake was apprehended in Sag Harbor, a high-end village in the Hamptons, a well-known summer retreat for celebrities on Long Island.
Timberlake, who is preparing for a world tour to promote his sixth album, "Everything I Thought It Was," was taken into custody at the time of the arrest.
The pop star has previously discussed his struggles with excessive drinking and his efforts to seek help.
A former member of the famed boy band NSYNC, with bandmates JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick, Timberlake has achieved significant success as an actor, songwriter, and one of the world’s top-selling music artists.
