Ranbir Kapoor is set to undergo a significant transformation for his role in Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming three-part feature film based on the Ramayana. However, the initial reveal of his look as Lord Ram has not been well received by the public. The negative reaction on the internet was strong enough to prompt the film's team to consider changing Ranbir's appearance for the movie.
The team behind the 'Ramayana' was confident that Ranbir's portrayal would be embraced by viewers. However, after the backlash following the leak of his look, there are now talks about adopting a completely different appearance for his character. According to a source close to the project, "The matter is under scrutiny right now."
Portraying such a revered figure has proven to be a challenge for Ranbir, who is known for his more active social life, including public appearances. An actor who previously played a significant religious figurehead shared his thoughts on the difficulties of such a role while talking to Zoom. He mentioned, "It’s not easy playing God on screen. I had to not just project a clean image, but also live it. For me, it was easier. I am not a socially active person. For the role Ranbir won’t drink alcohol or smoke for as long as he is playing Lord Ram for the next year."
Despite these challenges, Ranbir is committed to his role, with the shooting of Ramayana still ongoing. Additionally, he is set to start shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Love & War' at the end of 2024, where he will portray a starkly different character, further showcasing his versatility as an actor.
As per reports, Ranbir is also working hard to maintain his physique like Lord Ram and spending majority of his time in gyms.
