House of the Dragon actor Matt Smith is all set to join the Shawn Levy-directed film, Star Wars: Starfighter. He will star alongside Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt will play the lead antagonist. However, further updates about his character have been kept under wraps. Meanwhile, the filmmaker is still looking for the female antagonist. Shawn had previously considered Mikey Madison for the part.
The upcoming film promises to explore the Star Wars universe five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
This is not the first time Mike has been rumoured to join the Star Wars franchise. He sparked speculations in 2018 that he will be joining the ninth Star Wars movie, but didn’t move forward.
However, Matt revealed in 2021 that he was a part of The Rise of Skywalker, but his scenes ended up on the chopping board. He said at the time, “But it was a pretty groovy thing, it was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing, it was a big story detail, a transformative Star Wars story detail, and it never got quite over the line.”

His credits also include Netflix’s The Crown, for which he received an Emmy nomination. He is also known for portraying Daemon Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.
Star Wars: Starfighter is set to hit the theatres on May 28, 2027.
