Marvel fans were thrilled when news broke that filming for Avengers: Doomsday had officially kicked off. However, according to the latest reports, the excitement may be clouded by speculation of a possible rift between two of the film’s biggest stars — Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Reynolds.

Many people think that the names in question are none other than Ryan Reynolds and Robert Downey Jr., two important characters in the Marvel universe, and that tensions on set have resulted in arguments between the two actors.

Meanwhile, John Rocha, co-host of The Hot Mic podcast, disclosed on The Kristian Harloff Show that a lighthearted joke made on set ended up sparking a rift between two actors. “A comment was made in jest that was a bit too familiar because these actors didn’t know each other that well and crossed a line. One of the actors got really upset about it, confronted the other actor…And that caused a big rift and battle," he added.

In the latest episode, Jeff Sneider also claimed that the Iron Man actor was unhappy with the scenes that were filmed with stand-ins in Doctor Doom’s suit and he then requested to reshoot all the scenes with him wearing the suit.

He said, “I’ve heard that even though they paid (Robert Downey Jr.) $50-60 million a movie, (Disney) had to reshoot for three weeks. They reshot three weeks’ worth of material because, apparently–this is just what I heard–they had an actor standing in for Downey Jr. In the (Doctor Doom) suit."

“Apparently, after two or three weeks, he was like ‘This isn’t working. I want to reshoot everything with me in the suit,’" Sneider claimed. He then pointed out that this led to disagreements on the sets. “The dysfunction I’ve heard on (the Doomsday) set is rivalled only by that of Fast and Furious movies," he added.

Jeff Sneider continued, “There’s just a lot of testosterone and a lot of ego on that set. A lot of people who think they know what way is the best way. In the end, there’s only one person’s way who matters, and that’s actually Robert Downey Jr.’s way."

The MCU's eagerly awaited Phase Six slate includes Avengers: Doomsday. The film, which was directed by the Russo Brothers, features a huge ensemble cast that includes Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Anthony Mackie.

The fact that Robert Downey Jr. will make a surprise comeback to the MCU as the antagonist Doctor Doom only heightens the anticipation. The movie was originally slated to open on May 1, 2026, but it has since been rescheduled to open on December 18, 2026.
