Unni Mukundan, the Malayalam actor who recently achieved pan-India success with Marco, has shared the influences behind the film’s intense action sequences.

In a candid conversation, Unni credited films like KGF and Leo for inspiring the high-octane nature of Marco's action. Speaking to Galatta, he explained, “All the success of the other South Indian films that were happening in Kerala, like KGF and Leo—all the movies which came down to Kerala—exploited the entire market. It was a huge revelation for me that, okay, my audience is ready for this. I just have to give something at par.”

However, despite drawing inspiration from such major blockbusters, Unni Mukundan faced significant budgetary constraints. “When I say at par, I cannot compete in terms of budget. There’s a massive difference,” he confessed. Recognizing the challenges posed by this gap, he shared how the film’s production had to be carefully planned. “So there was a very definite plan, a very definite blueprint. I was a part of the production. I wanted it to happen in a certain way," he said. The actor, who was actively involved in the movie's making, emphasized that despite the restrictions, they managed to create something impactful.

Another unexpected factor was Marco's reception in the Hindi belt, which left Unni surprised. “A huge surprise was the Hindi belt. I was not sure how they would receive it, so I didn’t market it. I didn’t spend anything extra. But the movie survived on merit,” he revealed, expressing his astonishment at the film's organic success across regions.

After a successful theatrical run across multiple languages, Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, has transitioned to digital platforms. It began streaming on SonyLIV from February 14, offering audiences another chance to experience its thrilling, action-packed narrative.
