Malayalam actor Mohan Raj aka Keerikkadan Jose passes away

Malayalam film industry mourns the loss of veteran actor Mohan Raj, fondly remembered for his role as Keerikkadan Jose in the movie Kireedam. The actor passed away at his residence in Kanjirankulam, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday afternoon at the age of 61. Mohan Raj’s demise has left a void in the South Indian cinema, where he was well-known for his work in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films.

Mohan Raj began his career in the film industry after being introduced to director Sibi Malayil while working as an enforcement officer. Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing over 101 kg, Mohan Raj made an impactful impression as a powerful villain character. His portrayal of Keerikkadan Jose in the 1989 Mohanlal-starrer Kireedam became an iconic performance, catapulting him to fame and making him a sought-after antagonist in Malayalam cinema.

Actor and director Dinesh Paniker shared the news of Mohan Raj’s passing on social media, expressing his shock and grief. He mentioned that Mohan Raj passed away around 3 pm at his home, and his cremation will be held the next day in Thiruvananthapuram. The announcement has seen an outpouring of condolences from fellow actors, filmmakers, and fans, all remembering his contribution to cinema and his indomitable spirit.
