Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor-starrer Loveyapa received an underwhelming response from the audience. This modern relationship and digital-era love was a unique take on the typical Bollywood rom-com formula. The film hit the theatres on February 7, 2025, but failed to create enough buzz among the moviegoers.
In an interview with India Today, Loveyapa writer Sneha Desai has recently addressed the film’s underwhelming box office response. Loveyapa received mixed reviews from the critics and grossed only Rs 6.9 crore in 10 days of its release.
She said, “Box office numbers don’t always tell the full story of a film’s impact. 'Loveyapa' is a fresh, unconventional take on romance that caters primarily to Gen-Z and millennials, who relate deeply to its humour, sarcasm, and modern take on love, nanoships and infidelity. However, because it is a unique style of rom-com, a remake at that, one that doesn’t necessarily follow the traditional Bollywood formula, it may take time for a wider audience to fully connect with it.”
However, the writer suggested that the film might witness better performance on the OTT platform. She said, “People prefer to watch larger-than-life portrayals on-screen and lesser-mounted films on OTT. Maybe a lot of people were shy of sampling the film in cinemas for this reason.”

The writer further noted, “It might just open to great numbers when we arrive on digital platforms. But the gratifying thing is that everyone who has seen it has come out pleasantly surprised with the film and performances.”
Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa is a Hindi remake of Pradeep Ranganathan's Tamil film Love Today. The film depicts the story of Gaurav, played by Junaid Khan, and Baani, essayed by Khushi Kapoor. However, things take a complicated turn in the couple's romance when Khushi's father, played by Ashutosh Rana, presents them with an ultimatum: swap phones to test their love.
