Kushboo Sundar has never been the kind to sit quietly when the conversation turns unfair, and the past week has given her more than enough reason to speak up. Her husband, filmmaker Sundar C, stepped away from directing the Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth project tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, and the reaction online quickly spiralled from curiosity to toxicity. What should have been a simple industry update turned into a flood of personal insults aimed at Kushboo, forcing her to push back in her own sharp, unfiltered way.
Sundar C had initially been announced as the director of the milestone collaboration produced by Raaj Kamal Films International. Just days later, he stepped down, citing “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.” That should have been the end of it, at least publicly. Instead, social media speculation took over, with some users turning their attention to Kushboo and inventing reasons for Sundar’s exit. The comments grew personal, crude, and wildly detached from reality.
One troll claimed Sundar walked away because Rajinikanth had allegedly asked Kushboo to perform a special number in the film. Kushboo didn’t let it slide. “Ile, unga veetule irundhu yaaravadhu aaduvaikkalamnu nenacho,” she shot back, effectively telling the user she’d rather hire someone from their own home for the dance.
A more aggressive comment accused Sundar of being “thrown out” of the film by Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan and suggested the industry should “throw him into the dustbin.” Kushboo replied without missing a beat: “Yen seruppu size 41, adi vaanga thayaara?” The message was clear. She wasn’t going to entertain disrespect.
She didn’t stop there. When confronted with a meme showing Rajinikanth running away from her, she responded with the pointed, “Appadidhaan un amma unnai peththaangala? Thanks for the info.” Another user claimed Sundar had been dropped because of a “subpar story,” to which she fired back, “And you tweet and raise questions on hearsay?? What a disaster you are.”
While Kushboo handled the trolls, Kamal Haasan kept the conversation grounded. Speaking about Sundar C’s exit, he said, “Sundar C has explained the reason for his withdrawal from the project through a press release. I don’t have anything to add to it. Until my star is satisfied with the script, we will keep scouting for it. We are currently in the process of finalising a quality script.”
With Sundar’s exit confirmed, speculation has shifted to the next possible director. Dhanush’s name has surfaced, though nothing has been confirmed. For now, the film remains in script development, with the team determined to find the right material for a Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan collaboration of this scale.
