In a surprising development, Ahn Sung Soo, the CEO of Gold Medalist and one of the closest figures to actor Kim Soo Hyun, has stepped down from his position.

According to a TenAsia report on November 28, Ahn quietly exited the company approximately two months ago, marking a significant shake-up at the agency during one of its most turbulent periods.

Ahn Sung Soo had notably appeared beside Kim Soo Hyun during the actor’s high-profile press conference on March 31 at the Stanford Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where the agency attempted to address mounting scrutiny surrounding the star.

His departure was not publicly disclosed at the time. The role has since been filled by a former Hanwha executive, signaling a rapid restructuring at the top.

Ahn’s exit comes while the unresolved dispute between Kim Soo Hyun and the bereaved family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron continues to dominate media attention.

Ahn had joined Gold Medalist early this year and remained for roughly nine months before departing. This raises questions about internal pressures and the agency’s handling of the crisis.

He is not the first executive to resign during this period. Another individual, known only as “A,” who had served as Gold Medalist’s CEO around December last year, also left the company before Kim Soo Hyun’s scandal became public. That former CEO reportedly managed negotiations relating to compensation following Kim Sae Ron’s 2022 drunk-driving incident, during which she struggled financially. Despite the company not recovering funds that had been loaned to her, “A” was said to have attempted to prevent a gift tax from being imposed on her.

The controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun intensified earlier this year when allegations surfaced claiming he had been in a romantic relationship with Kim Sae Ron for six years, starting when she was still a minor. Kim initially denied any relationship, but later revised his position, stating the two “dated after she became an adult.”

The situation took a tragic turn on February 16, Kim Soo Hyun’s birthday, when Kim Sae Ron was found dead in her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.

Since then, the actor and the late actress’s family have been in a legal standoff involving disputed financial claims and conflicting accounts of their relationship history.
