Kim Soo Hyun used fake accounts to hide chats with Kim Sae Ron, claims Garo Sero Institute

​South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has been at the center of a controversy involving late actress Kim Sae Ron. Following Kim Sae Ron's tragic death in February 2025, a YouTube channel named Garo Sero Institute presented allegations suggesting that Kim Soo Hyun had a romantic relationship with Kim Sae Ron when she was underage. These claims have led to public debates and scrutiny.​

In response to these allegations, Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, issued a statement on March 14, 2025. They acknowledged that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had dated but emphasized that their relationship began only after Kim Sae Ron reached legal age. The agency provided a timeline, stating that their relationship occurred between the summer of 2019 and fall 2020, when Kim Sae Ron was an adult. They refuted claims that the relationship started in 2015 when Kim Sae Ron was 15 years old, labeling such allegations as false. ​

Gold Medalist also addressed specific pieces of evidence presented by Garo Sero Institute. They clarified that photos shown as evidence were taken in 2019 and 2020, after Kim Sae Ron became an adult. The agency pointed out that certain images, including one from December 24, 2019, could be verified through metadata, supporting their claim that these photos were taken during their relationship when Kim Sae Ron was of legal age. They further explained that a letter Kim Soo Hyun sent to Kim Sae Ron during his military service was a friendly gesture, not an indication of a romantic relationship at that time. ​

Additionally, the agency expressed concern over Kim Soo Hyun's mental health, stating that he has been experiencing psychological distress due to the ongoing allegations and public scrutiny. They mentioned that he has been subjected to harassment, including paparazzi waiting outside his residence, which has contributed to his emotional turmoil. ​
