The long-running family sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) is gearing up for a major shake-up. After Palak Sindhwani’s sudden and controversial exit, the show has found a fresh face to take over the role of Sonu Bhide. Palak, who portrayed Sonu for five years, left TMKOC amid allegations of mental harassment and unpaid dues, a departure that stirred up plenty of drama.

The official page of TMKOC posted the news with the caption, "Join us in warmly welcoming Khushi Mali as the Sonu Bhide to the TMKOC family! Stepping into Sonu’s shoes is Khushi Mali, best known for her role in Sajha Sindoor. For those who aren’t caught up, Sonu Bhide is a pivotal character in the series, being the daughter of the strict yet loving teacher Atmaram Bhide and the intelligent, caring Madhavi Bhide. As a member of the mischievous Tappu Sena, Sonu often plays the voice of reason in the group, adding her own charm and balance to the show’s dynamic.

Speaking about the new casting, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Asit Kumarr Modi told ETimes in an interview, "Sonu is a vital part of the Tapu Sena, representing leadership and warmth. We carefully chose Khushi Mali for this role as we believe she embodies these qualities. We're confident she will bring Sonu to life and are excited to support her in this journey. We hope the audience gives her the same love they’ve shown the show and its characters over the past 16 years."

Palak Sindhwani, who exited the show only days ago, is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with the makers. The actress claims she faced exploitation and difficult working conditions, which ultimately led to her quitting the show. In response, the production team has issued her a legal notice for breach of contract. Despite the ongoing battle, Palak’s portrayal of Sonu over the past five years left a significant mark on the series.
