Janhvi Kapoor made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival where she was for the premiere of her Neeraj Ghaywan-directed film, Homebound.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Janhvi spoke about how Neeraj Ghaywan handles his sets in a personable manner.

She complimented the director on his vision and how he handles those around him. Janhvi also thanked him for helping her become a more critical thinker.

Janhvi Kapoor stated, "I think for me, he’s sort of nudged me into being a more curious person and sort of taking on the responsibility of knowing where I come from, of trying to understand things in my environment about society. I think that, in turn, of course, helped Sudha (her character) and helped my process a lot, but just to inspire someone to have that kind of curiosity, and the way that he did with me was very inspiring."

The actress went on to say, “I owe him so much about my ability for critical thinking now, the way that it stands. My curiosity for cinema, for history, for politics, for um things happening around me, and also, the way that I think he gives respect to people, the way that he sees people. I think when I said I felt like he healed me, I just felt so seen by him in a way, and it wasn’t just exclusive for his actors, everyone."

She further stated, “You know, on most sets it’s like, ‘Call spot dada, call light dada.’ It’s not offensive, but you don’t realise how that in itself dehumanises someone, and he knew everyone’s name. Everyone knew everyone’s name, and he respected everyone’s opinion as much as he did an HOD… That man is the most special man I know, and it’s one of the greater privileges of my life to have been able to spend this time with him."

This emotional drama, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, takes place in rural North India and explores themes of ambition, friendship, and the struggle for respect. Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa feature as two childhood friends aiming to join the police force, a journey that tests their friendship and integrity. Janhvi Kapoor also plays an important part in the film.

Homebound has received international recognition, having premiered at the renowned Cannes Film Festival in May. It was shown in the Un Certain Regard section and garnered a nine-minute standing ovation.
