Horror fans will have to wait a little longer for James Wan’s next big scare. Universal announced Tuesday that Other Mommy, the supernatural thriller produced by Wan’s Atomic Monster and directed by Rob Savage, has been pushed back from May 8, 2026, to October 9, 2026.
The move puts the film right in the middle of spooky season, a release slot that has often worked wonders for horror at the box office.
Jessica Chastain headlines a chilling castThe movie’s cast is stacked. Jessica Chastain leads the lineup, joined by Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark, and Dichen Lachman. The project comes from Savage, the rising genre director behind Host and The Boogeyman. For horror junkies, that’s reason enough to keep an eye on this one.
The screenplay, written by WGA Award-winner Nathan Elston (Succession), adapts Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. The story centers on a young girl whose family home becomes the hunting ground for a sinister entity. And it needs her permission to come inside.
Wan brings back his horror magicJames Wan’s name alone makes this project a big deal. Through Atomic Monster, now linked with Blumhouse, he’s been behind modern horror juggernauts like The Conjuring, Insidious, and Saw.
Fans of those films know his knack for mixing scares with emotional storytelling, and Other Mommy seems poised to continue that tradition.
The producing team includes Wan, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and others, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for Atomic Monster. On paper, the film is already shaping up to be a prestige horror event.

A better date for a bigger scareIndustry watchers note that the October shift could actually boost the film’s chances. Pointing out that horror thrives in fall, especially near Halloween. With a name like Jessica Chastain attached, and Wan’s loyal fanbase, the buzz will only grow in the months ahead.
For now, fans will have to mark a new date on the calendar—October 9, 2026. Until then, the wait continues for Wan’s next nightmare.
