With his vivacious dance performance in Jaadu, the opening number from his upcoming movie Jewel Thief, Jaideep Ahlawat has impressed and surprised fans. Although many were surprised by Jaideep's fluid movements and assured on-screen persona in the lively, high-energy number, the actor, who is known for his intense, gritty roles, says it's nothing unusual.

“Genuinely, bhot zyaada paisa kharcha kia hai, pata nhi logo ko aisa kyu surprise lagta hai ki koi naach sakta hai?” (We’ve genuinely spent a lot of money on this, I don’t understand why people are so surprised that someone can dance), he said with a laugh, addressing the unexpected reactions.

“Jo log mujhe bachpan se jaante hai, main, mera background Haryana hai. Bhot naacha hu. Toh dancing is okay.” (People who’ve known me since childhood know that I’m from Haryana. I’ve danced a lot. So, dancing is fine.) the Paatal Lok actor said in a press conference for Jewel Thief.

Co-star Nikita Dutta also shared a fun anecdote from the song’s shoot. “I actually tell you, jab hum yeh gaana shoot krre the, toh what happens is whichever actor has to go and dance, baaki sab jab rest krre hote hai, baaki sab van main chle jaate hai. Tab Jaideep sir camera k paas jaane waale the dance krne k liye, hum sab beth kar dekh rhe the ki Jaideep is going to dance.” (When we were shooting this song, usually when it's someone else’s turn to dance, the rest of us go to our vans and take a break. But when Jaideep sir was about to go and dance in front of the camera, we all sat and watched, thinking — Jaideep is going to dance!)

Jaideep added with a smile, “Pta hai sab soch rhe the, dekhte hai ab kya karta hai. But bhot mazza aaya, saath main beth kar rehearse bhi krre the.” (Everyone was wondering what I’d do. But it was a lot of fun — we all sat together and rehearsed.)

He also expressed gratitude to fans, saying, “Thank you for your support, you guys. Thank you so much.”

Jaadu, which also features Saif Ali Khan and Nikita Dutta, is a dazzling, glamour-packed stage number. While Saif brings back his iconic Race-era charisma, it’s Jaideep who truly steals the spotlight with his unexpected performance.

Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, Jewel Thief premieres April 25 on Netflix. Also starring Kunal Kapoor, the film centres on a high-stakes heist to steal the legendary African Red Sun diamond. From the stylish teaser to the electrifying first song, it’s clear that Jewel Thief isn’t just about stealing jewels — it’s about stealing the show.
