For years, fans have been buzzing about the possibility of a documentary capturing Taylor Swift’s epic Eras Tour — and now, that dream is finally coming true.

But it’s even bigger than anyone expected. On Monday, Taylor announced that a six-part docuseries called Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era will premiere on Disney+ on 12 December.

At the same time, a concert film titled Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show will drop, featuring footage from the tour’s grand finale in Vancouver, Canada.

The announcement came on Good Morning America, where the series was described as an intimate look into Taylor’s life while she was thrilling fans across the globe.

The docuseries will also highlight some familiar faces, including opening acts Gracie Abrams and Sabrina Carpenter, as well as special guests Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch. The first two episodes will be available from 12 December, with two more released each week for the following two weeks.

The concert film, which premieres alongside the first episodes, gives fans a chance to see the finale show in Vancouver — including the exciting new material added from The Tortured Poets Department. This is something the earlier Eras Tour film, which also appeared on Disney+, didn’t include since it was filmed before those songs were added to the setlist.

In a heartfelt social media post, Taylor shared, “It was the End of an Era and we knew it. We wanted to remember every moment leading up to the culmination of the most important and intense chapter of our lives, so we allowed filmmakers to capture this tour and all the stories woven throughout it as it wound down. And to film the final show in its entirety.”

The docuseries is directed by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, while the concert film is directed by Glenn Weiss, with production by Taylor Swift Productions and Silent House Productions.

The Vancouver finale at BC Place Stadium on 8 December 2023 was a massive event, with a setlist featuring 45 songs — including a “Female Rage: The Musical Segment” added late in the tour. The surprise song section included medleys like “A Place in This World”/“New Romantics” and “Long Live/New Year’s Day.” It’s not yet clear if the film will show the entire three-hour-plus performance.

Fans had already guessed something big was coming when they noticed extra camera crews during the Vancouver show. Taylor’s previous Eras Tour concert film broke records both in cinemas and on Disney+, so expectations are high.

Unlike the earlier concert movie, these new projects won’t be hitting cinemas but will be streaming only. Still, cinemas have something to celebrate — Taylor recently topped the box office with Taylor Swift: The Release Party of a Showgirl, which grossed $33 million in just three days.

These releases follow the massive success of her latest album The Life of a Showgirl, which smashed first-week sales records on the Billboard 200, beating Adele’s long-standing record.

Choosing to announce the projects on ABC’s Good Morning America felt fitting, given Taylor’s close ties to the network. It came just a week after her appearances on NBC’s late-night shows, which brought huge ratings boosts to both The Tonight Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
