The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is reportedly returning to acting after an eight-year break, with a cameo in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends.
She will reportedly make her first on-screen appearance since leaving the popular series Suits in 2017, when she was spotted filming in Pasadena, California, on November 5. In addition to Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding as the stunning star cast, the 44-year-old duchess will play herself in the movie.
The role is a "gentle re-entry" into Hollywood for Meghan, who has been getting a lot of offers, according to a studio source. In a plot that subtly parallels Meghan and Prince Harry's 2020 move to Montecito after resigning as senior royals, the film centres on an average couple who meet a famous couple while visiting Santa Barbara.
India Today quoted a source that said, “This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves. She’s been flooded with offers, but this one felt right. It’s Meghan’s way of dipping her toe back in, seeing how it feels to be on set again. Everyone involved is thrilled, and her appearance has been kept tightly under wraps.”
Prince Harry is reportedly very supportive of Meghan’s decision to return to acting. “Prince Harry is of course really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy,” the source further said.
Since stepping away from royal duties, the couple has settled in California, focusing on their production company, Archewell, along with various philanthropic and creative ventures.
Meghan’s return to acting is being viewed as a natural extension of her creative journey, combining her passion for storytelling with her established presence in the entertainment industry.
