Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 28 individuals, diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan have visibly intensified. In the wake of the incident, several Pakistani artists and content creators have faced digital restrictions, with a significant move being the ban of Instagram accounts belonging to Pakistani celebrities Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam in India.
As per a report by News24Online, many popular Instagram accounts of Pakistani actors and YouTube channels featuring content from Pakistan have now been blocked from access within Indian territory. Initially, the Instagram pages of both Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam were still accessible, which came as a surprise to many. However, it has now been confirmed that their profiles have been taken down in compliance with legal directives.

Users attempting to view these profiles are now met with the message: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.” Meta has also issued a clarification, stating, “We received a legal request to restrict this content. We reviewed it against our policies and conducted a legal and human rights assessment. After the review, we restricted access to the content in the location where it goes against local law.”
Both Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam have enjoyed widespread popularity in India. Fawad Khan made a lasting impression with Bollywood films like Khoobsurat, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Kapoor & Sons. Meanwhile, Atif Aslam has ruled the Indian music charts with hit tracks such as Pehli Nazar Mein, Tera Hone Laga Hoon, Jeena Jeena, and Tere Bin.
