After much delay, Kangana Ranaut starrer Emergency is finally set to release on January 17, 2025. Now ahead of the release, Kangana has released the second trailer of the movie which looked fiery and hard-hitting.

Kangana Ranaut takes on a dual role in her upcoming film Emergency, serving as both the director and the lead actress. The trailer offers a glimpse into the dramatic events of 1975, when then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of Emergency in India. In a powerful moment from the trailer, Kangana as Gandhi asserts, "Main hi Cabinet hoon," followed by describing the period as a "war against the Kauravas."

Kangana took to her Instagram and shared the official trailer of the film emergency.


The film promises to delve into the lesser-known aspects of this historic chapter. Kangana’s transformation into Indira Gandhi is striking, with her voice modulation, body language, and overall portrayal capturing the essence of the iconic leader. Her dedication to the role shines through, leaving viewers in awe of her commitment to embodying the character.

The trailer goes on to depict a nation descending into turmoil, marked by violence, loss, and chaos, as Kangana's portrayal of Indira Gandhi showcases her controversial decision to declare an Emergency. The visuals capture the tension and unrest gripping the country during this critical period.

In a powerful closing scene, Kangana’s voice resonates with the line, "Indira is India," emphasizing the former Prime Minister's unyielding stance and her assertion of authority. Kangana’s impactful performance highlights Indira Gandhi’s determination to stand firm against opposition, showcasing a leader who defied all odds to enforce her decision, regardless of the consequences.

The film features a stellar ensemble cast, with Anupam Kher portraying the role of Jayaprakash Narayan and Shreyas Talpade stepping into the shoes of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Milind Soman takes on the character of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, while Mahima Chaudhry appears as Pupul Jayakar. Ashok Chhabra plays Morarji Desai, Vishak Nair portrays Sanjay Gandhi, and the late Satish Kaushik brings Jagjivan Ram to life in one of his final performances.

The political drama is written, directed, and co-produced by Kangana. It will be released in theatres on January 17. Emergency delves into the emergency imposed by the late PM for 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and its aftermath.

The film was initially slated for release on September 6, 2024, but the date was postponed due to delays in obtaining clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). After a thorough review process, the movie was granted a U/A certificate, accompanied by 13 suggested cuts.
