British singer Ed Sheeran, who is currently in India for his Mathematics Tour, surprised his fans after sharing a video of him trying his hand at the Indian classical instrument, the sitar.
Ed Sheeran, currently on a six-city tour across India, shared a video on his official Instagram page on Friday. The clip features the 33-year-old singer alongside sitar player Megha Rawoot, who is seen guiding him as he tries his hand at the traditional instrument.
The duo then performs Sheeran’s popular song Shape of You, with the British star playing the sitar. He wrote in the caption, "Played sitar today for the first time, had a great teacher @megharawoot."
Many fans flooded the comment section, praising the singer for showcasing his musical versatility while experimenting with the sitar. One fan wrote, "So you just woke up played a brand new instrument? Today, I couldn’t even do the job I was actually hired for." Another comment read, "It’s game over now he’s coming with a new instrument."
Ed Sheeran, widely recognized for hits like Perfect Duet, Thinking Out Loud, and Shivers, is currently in India as part of his Mathematics (+-=÷x) Tour. The India leg kicked off on January 30 in Pune, followed by electrifying performances in Hyderabad and Chennai.

During his Chennai concert on Wednesday, Sheeran surprised fans by inviting Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman as a special guest. The duo delivered a mesmerizing mashup of Sheeran’s Shape of You and Rahman’s legendary Urvasi, seamlessly fusing their signature sounds for an unforgettable musical moment.
As the tour continues, Sheeran is set to perform in Bengaluru on Saturday before heading to Shillong for a concert on February 12. The grand finale of his India tour will take place in the Delhi-NCR region on February 15.
